Choosing a Model
The Tri-Motion Catalog shows dimensions and rated lifting capacities. The purpose of this document is to provide other important information that may also need to be considered.
For High Cycle or High Speed Applications, DO NOT:
- Do not consider an unnecessarily low ration for a Modular Ratio unit just because the lifting capacity would be higher. The cable and eyebolts would not be any larger, so all this does is create higher shock forces.
- Do not consider an unnecessarily low ratio for a Modular Ratio unit just because there would be fewer pulleys. More pulleys are always better.
- Do not consider using air pressure greater than 80 PSI (for Modular Ratio units M-03 thru M-12) or greater than 100 PSI (for all other Bal-Trol models) to attain greater lifting capacity.
For High Cycle or High Speed Applications, DO:
- Do consider the next larger size Bal-Trol® model.
- Do consider that Full Capacity units have stronger hanger links, while Modular Ratio units rely on eyebolts which are more prone to being damaged by shock loads and side loading.
- Do consider that F-01 has stronger cable than M-06...F-02 and F-03 have stronger cable than M-12....M-40 has stronger cable than F-06.
- Do consider optional Adjustable Rear Supports when the horizontal mounting dimensions of an FH unit are too long.
- Do consider the Low Friction option (u-cup piston seal) for Full Capacity units that are to be used with the Balancer control, or whenever more accurate load positioning is required.
- Do consider the higher ratios (8:1 or 6:1) if a Modular Ratio unit is preferred. The lower ratios (4:1) can cause excess shock forces.
